Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah ninety two: the ten psalms. A short teaching with a great promise.
For an impurity that can happen at night, Heaven forbid, Rebbe Nachman gives a tikkun: to say ten chapters of Tehillim, on that same day. He first taught this in the first book, in Torah two hundred and five.
Why ten? The Gemara counts ten kinds of song in the book of Tehillim: berachah, ashrei, maskil and the rest. These kinds of song are the opposite of the klipah and of the flaw, so they have the power to cancel it.
He shows a hint for each kind of song in a verse, and many of them speak of the night: I bless Hashem even at night; His song is with me at night; He gives songs in the night.
Then he names the ten chapters: sixteen, thirty two, forty one, forty two, fifty nine, seventy seven, ninety, one hundred and five, one hundred and thirty seven, and one hundred and fifty. Today they are known as the Tikkun HaKlali.
And the promise: whoever merits to say them on that day need not fear any more at all, because it is surely repaired. In the merit of this repair, Mashiach will come and gather our scattered ones, as it says: Hashem builds Yerushalayim.
Our own reflection: song is stronger than the flaw. Say the ten chapters with the heart, and then do not stay afraid. Each tikkun brings the redemption closer.

— Part 1: The Ten Chapters of Tehillim —
Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah ninety two. A shiur in one part: the ten chapters of Tehillim.
A word on method. Gold is Rebbe Nachman's own words, from Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah ninety two. Grey is a verse or a teaching of the Sages that he quotes. Green is our own explanation, not a quotation. The Hebrew on screen is the public-domain text from Sefaria, and the English is our own paraphrase.
Rebbe Nachman opens with a short teaching about an impurity that can happen at night, Heaven forbid. A tikkun for a mikreh at night, Heaven forbid: to say ten chapters of Tehillim, as explained in the first book, in Torah two hundred and five; see the matter there.
He explains why: For ten chapters of Tehillim correspond to the ten kinds of song with which the book of Tehillim was said, as the Gemara and the Zohar bring: berachah, ashrei, maskil and the rest. These ten kinds of song have the power to cancel the force of the klipah and of that flaw, because they are its opposite, as explained there in the first book.
Our explanation. The Gemara counts ten different expressions of song and praise in the book of Tehillim. Rebbe Nachman teaches that these ten kinds of song are the very opposite of the flaw, and so they have the power to undo it. Ten chapters, one for each kind of song.
And know: this matter of the ten kinds of song, which stand against that flaw, is hinted in these verses:
Berachah: 'I will bless Hashem who has counseled me, even at night.' Ashrei: 'Happy is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.' Maskil: 'and a wise wife is from Hashem.' Shir: 'at night His song is with me.' Nitzuach: 'For the conductor: do not destroy.'
He continues the list: Niggun: 'I remember my song at night.' Tefillah: 'Can bland food be eaten without salt?' Hodu: 'lest you give your glory to others.' Mizmor: 'who gives songs in the night.'
And Hallelukah: 'a woman who fears Hashem, she shall be praised.' Understand these hints well.
Our explanation. Notice how many of these verses speak of the night: I bless Hashem even at night; His song is with me at night; I remember my song at night; He gives songs in the night. Others speak of a sin covered and forgiven, and of a home built with wisdom and fear of Hashem. The Rebbe leaves the hints for us to ponder.
Now the list itself. And know: these are the ten chapters that must be said on the very day that an impure occurrence happened to him, Heaven forbid:
Psalm sixteen, Michtam leDavid. Psalm thirty two, LeDavid maskil. Psalm forty one, Ashrei maskil el dal. Psalm forty two, Ke'ayal ta'arog. Psalm fifty nine, Lamnatze'ach al tashches. Psalm seventy seven, Lamnatze'ach al Yedusun. Psalm ninety, Tefillah leMoshe. Psalm one hundred and five, Hodu laHashem kiru vishmo. Psalm one hundred and thirty seven, Al naharos Bavel. Psalm one hundred and fifty, Hallelu Kel bekodsho.
Then a great promise: These ten chapters of Tehillim are a very, very great tikkun for this matter. Whoever merits to say them on that day need not fear any more at all from the terrible flaw of the mikreh, Heaven forbid, for it is surely repaired through this.
And he ends with the redemption: And in the merit of repairing this sin, our righteous Mashiach will come to gather our scattered ones, as it is written: 'Hashem builds Yerushalayim; He gathers the dispersed of Israel.' Speedily in our days, amen.
Our explanation, step by step. Ten chapters of Tehillim: sixteen, thirty two, forty one, forty two, fifty nine, seventy seven, ninety, one hundred and five, one hundred and thirty seven, and one hundred and fifty. They are said on that same day. And then, the Rebbe promises, there is no need to fear any more. These ten chapters are known today as the Tikkun HaKlali, the general remedy, and many people say them every day.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Song is stronger than the flaw; ten chapters of Tehillim, said with the heart, can repair what seemed broken. After that, the Rebbe tells us not to stay afraid. And every such tikkun brings the redemption closer.
