כְּשֶׁיֵּשׁ לְהָאָדָם לֵב, אֵין שַׁיָּךְ אֶצְלוֹ מָקוֹם

When You Have a Heart, Place Does Not Matter

When a person has a heart, place does not apply to him at all; on the contrary, he is the place of the world. For the Divine is in the heart, 'Rock of my heart', and of Hashem it is said 'here is a place with Me': He is the place of the world, and the world is not His place. So one who has a Jewish heart should not say that this place is not good for him.

1-minute recap

Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty six: when you have a heart.

When you have a heart, place doesn't matter: you are the place of the world.

So never say: this place is not good for me.

Our own reflection: bring your heart, and any place becomes the right place.

Explainer

Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty six. A short teaching for anyone who feels they are in the wrong place.

When a person has a heart, place does not apply to him at all. On the contrary, he is the place of the world. For the Divine is in the heart, as the psalm says: Rock of my heart.

Of Hashem it says: here is a place with Me. He is the place of the world, and the world is not His place. So one with a Jewish heart should never say: this place is not good for me.

Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Before you blame where you are, look at your heart. With a heart, any place can become holy.

— Part 1: When You Have a Heart, Place Does Not Matter —

Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty six. A short shiur in one part: the heart, and the place of the world.

Gold is Rebbe Nachman's own words, from Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty six. Grey is a verse or teaching he quotes. Green is our own explanation. The Hebrew is the public-domain text from Sefaria; the English is our own paraphrase.

When a person has a heart, place does not apply to him at all; on the contrary, he is the place of the world. For the Divine is in the heart, as it is written, 'Rock of my heart'. And of Hashem it is said, 'here is a place with Me': He is the place of the world, and the world is not His place.

So one who has a Jewish heart should not say that this place is not good for him; for place does not apply to him at all. On the contrary, he is the place of the world, and the world is not his place.

Our explanation. Hashem is the place of the world; the world does not contain Him. And the Divine lives in the heart. So a person with a heart carries his place with him, and no place can be wrong for him.

Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Before you blame where you are, look at your heart. With a heart, any place can become holy.
