Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty seven. A short teaching about the stir a great tzaddik makes.
When a great and true tzaddik reveals wondrous new Torah, it is good for the small ones too. Through it, a small person grows, because everyone comes running to him.
Even on the other side it happens. When Hashem gave the Torah to Israel, all the nations came to Bilaam. They asked about the great noise, and he stood on a verse and taught them: Hashem gives strength to His people.
So too among Israel. When a true tzaddik reveals awesome teachings and there is a great stir, people gather around someone small, and listen to what he says on some verse, because of the stir the great tzaddik made.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. When something awakens your thirst for Torah, notice it. And go to the true source, not only to whoever happens to be near.

— Part 1: When a True Tzaddik Reveals Torah —
Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty seven. A short shiur in one part: when a true tzaddik reveals Torah.
Gold is Rebbe Nachman's own words, from Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah fifty seven. Grey is a verse or teaching he quotes. Green is our own explanation. The Hebrew is the public-domain text from Sefaria; the English is our own paraphrase.
Know that when a great true tzaddik reveals Torah, wondrous and awesome new teachings, it is a kindness to those small in level: through it the small one grows in level, for everyone runs and comes to him.
And in the other side too one grows through it, as we find with Bilaam: when Hashem gave the Torah to Israel, all the nations came to Bilaam.
So through the giving of the Torah to Israel, Bilaam grew, and the whole world came to him, and he stood on some verse and said Torah to them. For when they came to him they asked what they asked, 'did Hashem sit enthroned at the flood?', and he stood on a verse and answered them: 'Hashem will give strength to His people'.
And so among Israel themselves, who are in holiness and do not, Heaven forbid, go to Bilaam and his like: when a great true tzaddik reveals new teachings and there is a great stir, that this one reveals such awesome teachings, then everyone gathers and comes to someone small in level, and they assemble by him to hear from him, because of the stir made by the great tzaddik's teachings; and he stands on some verse and tells them what he tells them.
Our explanation. A great revelation of Torah makes a stir in the world. People are suddenly thirsty, and they run to whoever is near, even small teachers. The lesson is to seek the true source itself.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. When something awakens your thirst for Torah, notice it. And go to the true source, not only to whoever happens to be near.
