— Part 1: When Lofty Teachings Become a Book —
Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah thirty six. A short shiur in one part: what happens when lofty teachings become a book.
Gold is Rebbe Nachman's own words, from Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah thirty six. Grey is a verse or teaching he quotes. Green is our own explanation. The Hebrew is the public-domain text from Sefaria; the English is our own paraphrase.
As soon as a book is made from very, very lofty and wondrous teachings, once a book has been made of them, there are coverings and concealments over them, so that their pure and wondrous light is covered and hidden. And the boards of the binding cover them, and so on.
Our explanation. A teaching spoken by the tzaddik shines openly. Once it is bound in a book, its light is veiled. It is still there, waiting for a reader whose longing uncovers it.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Open the sefer with longing and prayer. Behind every cover, the light is still waiting for you.
