יִשְׂרָאֵל הֵם נַעֲשִׂים אֲדוֹנִים לְבַעֲלֵיהֶם, כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמְרוּ
Masters of Their Exile
Wherever Jews are exiled, at first they are subdued there, but afterwards they become masters over the place, because Israel lifts up every low and fallen place. The Sages say even theatres and circuses will one day host public Torah study. That is why Jews in exile are called bnei hagolah: the letters of golah are the initials of 'and he too will remain for our Elokim'.

Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah seventy six: masters of Their Exile.
Wherever Jews are exiled, Rebbe Nachman says, at first they are subdued, but afterwards they become masters there.
For Israel lifts up every low and fallen place. Even theatres and circuses will one day be places of public Torah.
So they are called bnei hagolah: golah spells 'and he too will remain for our Elokim'.
Our own reflection: wherever you are, you were sent to lift it up.

Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah seventy six. A short teaching about Israel in exile.
Israel become masters over their masters. As the Sages said, wherever they go, they become princes over their masters.
Wherever they come in exile, at first they are subdued there. But afterwards they become masters, conquering the very place of their exile.
For Israel raise up and elevate all the low and fallen places. The Sages say theatres and circuses are destined to become places where Torah is taught in public, as it says, 'and he too will remain for our Elokim'.
That is why in exile they are called bnei hagolah. Though they later become masters and lift everything, at first they wander in exile.
And golah is the initials of 'venishar gam hu le'Elokeinu', and he too will remain for our Elokim. For afterwards they lift up everything.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Wherever life has placed you, even somewhere that feels low and far, you were sent there to lift it up.

— Part 1: Masters of Their Exile —
Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah seventy six. A short shiur in one part: masters of Their Exile.
Gold is Rebbe Nachman's own words, from Likutey Moharan Tinyana, Torah seventy six. Grey is a verse or teaching he quotes. Green is our own explanation. The Hebrew is the public-domain text from Sefaria; the English is our own paraphrase.
Israel become masters over their masters, as our Sages said: every place they go, they become princes over their masters.
For in every place they come to in exile, at first they are subdued in the exile; but afterwards they become masters over their masters, for afterwards they conquer that place where they came in exile.
For Israel raise up and elevate all the low and fallen places, as our Sages said: theatres and circuses are destined to have Torah taught in them in public, as it says, 'and he too will remain for our Elokim', and so on; see there.
For Israel elevate and lift up all the fallen places. And therefore Israel in exile are called bnei hagolah, children of the exile.
For although afterwards they become masters, raising, lifting and elevating everything, still at first they are in exile, wandering and roaming; but afterwards they elevate and lift everything. So they are called bnei hagolah, for the letters of golah are the initials of 'venishar gam hu le'Elokeinu'.
For afterwards they elevate and lift everything, in the sense of 'and he too will remain for our Elokim', as our Sages said: theatres and circuses are destined, and so on, as above.
Our explanation. Exile has three stages. At first we are subdued and wander. Then we become masters of the place. And in the end every fallen place is lifted up to Hashem.
Some reflections of our own, not a quotation. Wherever life has placed you, even somewhere that feels low and far, you were sent there to lift it up.
