## Texts used

- Hebrew: Likutei Moharan Tinyana (Part II), Torah 32, edition 'Likutei Moharan Tinyana – rabenubook.com', public domain, via Sefaria — https://www.sefaria.org/Likutei_Moharan%2C_Part_II.32
- English: our own paraphrase of the Hebrew, written for these videos. It is not copied from any published translation.
- Verses and teachings of the Sages appear only as Rebbe Nachman quotes them inside this Torah.

## How the text is shown

- The Divine Name is shown as ה' and voiced as Hashem. Other Names are written in the customary form No full Name is written or voiced.
- Parenthetical source references inside the printed Hebrew are left off the screen to save space; the citation line names the source instead.
- Long paragraphs are shown in consecutive pieces. Every Hebrew word on screen is from the edition above; nothing is reworded.
- Cards labelled EXPLANATION (green), and every line marked 'our own reflection — not a quote', are our own words, not quotations.

## Notes

- Part 1, scene 4: 'With him' is the Rebbe himself, speaking of his own teachings.
- Part 1, scene 11: The Midrash plays on the word 'lo sinaf' and 'af', the nose; we keep the wording brief.
- Part 2, scene 2: This follows the Torah's law of the sotah (Bamidbar 5); we keep the wording brief and modest.

### Part 1 — Hidden Teachings and Lost Books

- Scene 3 · LM II:32 §1 · paragraph §1.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): There are hidden tzaddikim who know the face of the Torah, but they must conceal their Torah, as they tell the story of the Baal Shem Tov with the preacher.
- Scene 4 · LM II:32 §1 · paragraph §1.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): And with him too, sometimes he knows a teaching that has a face, the face of the Torah, and he must hide it, and does not say it; sometimes he does not write it at all; sometimes he writes it and then burns it. In truth, had it been written, it would have become a book and come into the world. And there are Names in them, 'My Name written in holiness', but the world spoils this, and they must be hidden and burned.
- Scene 5 · LM II:32 §1 · paragraph §1.3
  - EN (our paraphrase): But it is a kindness to the world that these teachings and books are hidden and burned. For there are also many books that were already made and were erased and lost from the world; surely the great early tzaddikim, the Tannaim and Amoraim and the like, made many books, but they were lost.
- Scene 6 · LM II:32 §1, on Melachim I 12:28 · paragraph §1.4
  - EN (our paraphrase): But it is a kindness to the world, for otherwise it would be impossible for us to come close to Hashem at all. There are many books of heresy which, if they spread in the world, Heaven forbid, would make it impossible to come close to Hashem. For Yeravam ben Nevat made two golden calves proclaimed them Israel's gods, and led all Israel astray after them.
- Scene 7 · LM II:32 §1 · paragraph §1.4
  - EN (our paraphrase): Can one imagine that he misled a great people with such foolishness, to serve calves? Surely there was very, very great cleverness of heresy in it. And if, Heaven forbid, one page of those books existed now, people would be very far from Hashem, and could not come close to Him at all. That is why it is a kindness that the holy books are hidden and burned.
- Scene 9 · LM II:32 §2, on Mishlei 18:10 and the Zohar · paragraph §2.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): For a book is the Name of Hashem, as in 'The Name of Hashem is a tower of strength; the tzaddik runs into it and is raised high'. The Zohar says: 'the Name of Hashem', this is a book, for sefer equals shem in gematria. For a book is 'My Name written in holiness', which spreads in the world and makes a name.
- Scene 10 · LM II:32 §2 · paragraph §2.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): And know that each person must guard the aspect of Mashiach that he has. For each one, according to his holiness and purity, has an aspect of Mashiach, and must guard it greatly, so that it is not spoiled. And the main thing on which it depends is guarding against immorality.
- Scene 11 · LM II:32 §2, on Eichah 4:20 and Bamidbar Rabbah 10 · paragraph §2.3
  - EN (our paraphrase): For Mashiach is the nose, as in 'the breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Hashem'; and that sin depends on the nose, as it is written 'lo sinaf', which the Midrash reads, 'do not take pleasure with the nose'. So one must guard himself greatly even from its scent, for it damages his aspect of Mashiach, which is the nose.
- Scene 12 · LM II:32 §2, on Bereishis 1:2 and the Zohar · paragraph §2.4
  - EN (our paraphrase): The aspect of Mashiach rests on the faces of the Torah, the holy books that reveal the face of the Torah, and there the spirit of Mashiach hovers, as in 'and the spirit of Elokim hovered over the face of the waters'. The spirit of Elokim: this is the spirit of Mashiach, hovering over the face of the waters; and water is the Torah.

### Part 2 — The Spirit of Mashiach and Peace in the Home

- Scene 2 · LM II:32 §3, on Bamidbar 5:14 · paragraph §3.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): And know that 'the breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Hashem' becomes a spirit of jealousy: wherever it finds immorality, it is zealous over it, from its great holiness and purity. Sometimes it is jealous and she was defiled; or 'a spirit of jealousy passed over him, and she was not defiled': from its great purity it is jealous even over seclusion alone, and through this sometimes a get comes about.
- Scene 3 · LM II:32 §3, on Devarim 24:1 and Bamidbar 5 · paragraph §3.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): So a get is called a sefer krisus, a book of separation, because it comes about through the book on which rests the spirit of Mashiach, which is the spirit of jealousy. Or he has her drink the bitter waters, and she is tested; and if she was not defiled, then on the contrary, 'she shall be cleared and shall bear children'.
- Scene 5 · LM II:32 §4 · paragraph §4.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): And know that there is a lower unification in this world, in such great fitness, holiness and purity, that the upper unification depends on it: the couple, the man and the woman, are so worthy, she very worthy with no trace of blemish, and he too very worthy, and their bond is in such fitness and holiness that the upper unification depends on it. For husband and wife, if they are worthy, the Shechinah dwells between them.
- Scene 6 · LM II:32 §4, on Sotah 17a · paragraph §4.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): For in the man there is a yud and in the woman a hei, and that is the upper unification. This bond, this lower unification, is very, very precious, since in this world a lower unification is made in such holiness that the upper unification depends on it.
- Scene 7 · LM II:32 §4, on the Zohar and Shir HaShirim 8:6 · paragraph §4.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): Now the spirit of jealousy, the spirit of Mashiach, which is zealous against immorality: what is it doing here, since they are very holy and pure? But know that here the spirit of jealousy comes for the sake of love. For the Zohar says: any love not bound up with jealousy is not true love, as it is written, 'love is strong as death, jealousy is hard as the grave'.
- Scene 8 · LM II:32 §4 · paragraph §4.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): For jealousy shows love: from the greatness of his love he is jealous for her, 'do not be secluded', so that the love will not be spoiled, Heaven forbid. And this is what the spirit of jealousy does here, for the sake of love.
- Scene 9 · LM II:32 §4 · paragraph §4.3
  - EN (our paraphrase): But since this lower unification is still in this world, the peace between them can be spoiled, Heaven forbid, through the spirit of jealousy. For jealousy, even for love's sake, can cast strife, Heaven forbid.
- Scene 10 · LM II:32 §5 · paragraph §5.1
  - EN (our paraphrase): So know that this is why the great tzaddikim must hide their Torah, burning and losing it: so that the spirit of jealousy departs, and does not spoil, Heaven forbid, the peace of that holy couple.
- Scene 11 · LM II:32 §5 · paragraph §5.2
  - EN (our paraphrase): For their lower unification is very precious, and if the peace between them were spoiled through the spirit of jealousy, it would be a very great loss. So the teachings and books must be lost, to remove the spirit of jealousy. For the spirit of jealousy is the spirit of Mashiach, which rests on the faces of the Torah, the books; so when the books are burned and lost, the spirit of jealousy that rests on them departs by itself.
- Scene 12 · LM II:32 §5 · paragraph §5.3
  - EN (our paraphrase): This is the secret of 'My Name, written in holiness, shall be erased'. For a book is the Name of Hashem, My Name written in holiness; and the Torah said it should be erased and lost to make peace between a man and his wife, that holy couple. For the sake of the peace between them, the books, My Name written in holiness, are erased and lost.
- Scene 13 · LM II:32 §5, on Shabbos 116a · paragraph §5.4
  - EN (our paraphrase): And then a kal vachomer is made above: if 'My Name written in holiness', the holy books, the Torah said may be erased to make peace, then the books of heresy, which cast hatred and rivalry in Israel, how much more must they be erased, lost and uprooted from the world, and their memory erased. So through the loss of the holy books comes good: the books of heresy are lost and uprooted, and then we can come close to Him. Amen.
